Shabnam is a Private Practitioner at S.K Counselling Services in Surrey, British Columbia. Shabnam is originally from Ba, Fiji Islands. She completed her Secondary School at Kamil College and then pursued her education at Fiji Institute of Technology, now known as Fiji National University. Shabnam then pursued her education in Sydney, Australia, where she acquired her Bachelor of Arts in Business Management and Marketing. After her arrival in Canada, she worked at Vancouver City Credit Union for a few years. Shabnam then pursued her studies towards Psychology. As a student, her practicum was done at many Non-Profit Organizations in the Lower Mainland. Shabnam has done immense hours of volunteer work in her community and she continues to be an active member in the community. She has also completed her training and received her Certificate in ICS: Indigenous Cultural Safety - Mental Health, through Provincial Health Services Authority, British Columbia. In addition, she received her Community Leaders Igniting Change Certificate, through Simon Fraser University (Beedie School of Business). Shabnam is a Registered Professional Counsellor and Master’s Practitioner in Clinical Counselling for the past twenty-two years and has experience working in both, the Non-Profit Sector and in Private Practice. Shabnam supports Inclusion and Collaboration.

Shabnam was a recipient of the Shakti Award of Public Service – Shakti Award 2020, celebrating Women in the Community, which reflects close to International Women’s Day Celebration. Shabnam has passion for writing inspirational stories and her Articles are published in the Community Newspaper & Blogs. Shabnam was a recipient of The Miracle Writer’s Award by The Miracle Media Group. Shabnam resides in Surrey, British Columbia. Her interests include traveling with her family, nature, reading and socializing.

    Shabnam believes Counselling is a process of learning how to make good life decisions. Realizing that there can be a lot of reluctance in seeking counselling services, she is committed to breaking those barriers through Awareness, Advocacy and continued Education.

    Her focus is to create a safe and non-judgmental space for people to explore emotions and overcome challenges. She provides compassionate support and guidance to people with anxiety and for those who are stuck in patterns that hurt them. Shabnam is committed to help people gain confidence, trust, regulate emotions and create the life that they deserve. She strives to foster a therapeutic relationship built on trust, empathy and collaboration. With a genuine passion for helping others, she uses evidence-based modalities that combine validation, compassion and psychology which creates change.

Areas of Work

Shabnam specializes in Individual, Child & Youth, Pre-Marital, Marriage/Couple & Family Counselling. She works in areas of Self-Esteem, Parenting, Depression, Grief/Bereavement, Assertive Communication, Anger Management, Boundaries & Relationships. Shabnam also advocates as an Adult Educator in schools and community gatherings through workshops on Effective Parenting, Mother & Daughter Groups and Women’s Support Groups.
